Mission and 30th

Something about this photo is weird. It looks like a movie set. For the longest time, I always assumed that the red and white State Farm Insurance building was occupied, but it's been empty for a long time. It has a cute old sign and awning though, and it used to be tiled on the bottom. They're doing something to it- last summer or something Simone and I took a picture of the inside all gutted out as they were remodeling or something. PS: Here comes the 14! We should take photos of all the old 70's brown, white and orange buses before they all get replaced by their boxy gray counterparts.

okay, that was a mistake up there.

the light in this photo is really beautiful and dappled. i've spent a lot of time around mission & randall, waiting for the J and such. This photo reminds me of the fall after i graduated from college and had little to do and would walk from my house down mission over dolores to visit jen at work in the mid afternoon. man, i miss san francisco. this photo is getting me all nostalgic. also, i feel like i have memories of going to that state farm office with my mom when i was little but i can't really be sure.

It's funny that you mention this looking like a movie set -- a few blocks away actually *was* a movie set (for Sister Act) back in the early '90's when I was going to school a few blocks away (on Randall St, in fact) at Fairmount elementary...

...from which I graduated, continuing on to DCS. Which is how I found this blog in the first place. (Someone who just moved from the city told me DCS had gone under, I did a google search, found your yelp review - which is spot on by the way, and clicked on your blog.)

So I'm curious: when did you go there? I graduated in '94...

Anyway, funny to find a fellow grad!

Cheers,
Katie

P.S. The zooey parody made me laugh. Nice work. :-)
